HOW ATHLETES SHOULD TRAIN 👇

Many endurance athletes can definitely benefit from implementing heavy weight strength training into their workout regimen rather than just focusing on endurance training.
.
Stronger athletes move faster, have better posture and technique, and have a lower risk of injury.
.
Implementation of strength training has been shown to be effective only when replacing a small portion of your endurance training. Studies have shown that endurance athletes training 6-7 hours a week can benefit from using around 2 of these hours for strength training.
.
Athletes training less than 6-7 hours a week will most likely not benefit from sacrificing endurance training for strength training. Remember that we really mean STRENGTH training, using HEAVY weights; 1-4 rep-max, for 2-3 sets, 2 times a week is enough.
.
This leads to neuromuscular adaption and NOT hypertrophy, explaining why there are no negative effects of strength training  as hypertrophy would theoretically affect athletic performance.
.
Plyometric training is a good, but less effective, weight-free alternative. Keep in mind, however, that this method has a higher risk of injury, so we recommend heavy resistance training!

😂 DO YOU NEED PROTEIN POWDER? 👇

The average adult over 19 years old consumes less than 1.3 grams of protein per kilogram of body weight per day. This is enough to build muscle but is, as we've already mentioned, not the optimal level of protein consumption for building muscle.
.
Therefore, assuming you consume as much protein as the average individual, you need to consciously eat more foods with high protein levels such as chicken, eggs, milk, lean meat, beans, fish etc.
.
An alternative to this is to add a protein supplement such as whey protein to your diet and thus reach the optimal protein level of 1.6 to 2.0 grams of protein per kilogram of body weight per day.
.
Studies on if whey is “superior” to food sources of protein are conflicting as there are theoretical advantages of the amino-acid composition on whey-protein and effects on muscle protein synthesis directly after a workout, but in practice there have been minimal advantages seen when it comes to building muscle, comparing to the same amount of protein from food.
.
So the takeaway is that it is the protein that is the most important to keep track of rather that where you get it from. Vary your protein sources and you will be well off!

I spoke about labels on Day 204, but think it’s worth another mention: I personally love labels because I think a) it looks pretty and b) it makes things practical, easier and quicker to grab. Remember it’s not just for you. It also makes it clear for the rest of the family and guests where they can find what. .

JOYWORK: what would you like to have labelled around your house? You don’t need an intrinsic label maker to get the job done. Get creative, but you can also ask around and borrow a label printer or simply use your regular printer with some thicker paper or sticker sheets. Make a list with the words you need & action it. Keep the end goal in mind - no point just mindlessly liking photos of labelled things or spending time pinning them, wishing you had the same. Just do it and if you do, tag me in the result!

~ Day 209, general Komono ~ A reason for not using or not finding any joy in something anymore can simply be because it’s no longer as new or needs fixing, like you see here in the before photo. During your tidying festival you will come across things that you’ve been meaning to “fix” (often “for ages”). I tell my clients to action that and have it done by our next session. That’s when they truly feel the joy value -> whether it’s worth it to them or not taking the time and effort, however small, to get things fixed or looking like new again. A simple finishing wax can bring new life to wood for example. Or if you have silver items - they too need to be polished every so often. .

There’s no way around it: things get worn & torn with time. Things break; lose their original colour; get stained. Are you going to keep it & not use or enjoy it anymore for another twenty years to come while it sits there in your drawer/cabinet cluttering things up or making you frown each time you see it? Even the sight of something that needs fixing can cause zero joy when it’s a constant reminder that you haven’t don’t something that’s on your to do list. What’s the item worth to you? That’s the question. Either you get it fixed and start loving it again, or you donate it and clear up your “to do” pressure. .

JOYWORK: Go around your house & collect all the items that need fixing or revamping: be it a dress that needs to go to the seamstress or dry cleaner; silverware that needs polishing; a toy that needs new batteries, etc. Pile it all up in one spot, pick it up one by one, imagine it’s fixed & ask yourself: will I find more joy in this & will I use it for what it’s intended if I get it done? Yes? Put in your diary what you need to action to get it done within the next week or two - no postponing. No? Thank it & donate it. .

~ Day 208 ~ Ikea hack day! 🇸🇪 Practically anything you have can be hacked into something cooler and handier: I’m a big fan of easy & simple hacks and when clients discard things that no longer spark joy I keep an eye out whether what they are discarding is something that can be hacked to solve another issue they may have - I’ll suggest it and then it’s up to them to decide whether that new idea sparks enough joy to keep the item or not. This here is the famous Raskog cart but then with some Skadis pegboards added to the sides, creating a super handy mobile arts & crafts cart. .

JOYWORK: take something you have which you no longer use or which could lend itself to a better use and do an internet search on that item to get inspiration on hacks - just type either the name of the item you have or the name of what you want to create + hack. You might find just the thing you needed and give your old item a new purpose! .
